Potential students are encouraged to review titles of recent M.A. Theses and PhD Dissertations for departmental and faculty interests and specializations. Candidates for the M.A. in Geography may pursue either Plan A or Plan B: Plan A requires the completion of 25 credits of course work and the successful preparation and oral defense of a Thesis. Plan B requires the completion of 31 credits of course work, a scholarly research paper, and a comprehensive final examination. M.A. students funded as Graduate Assistants (“teaching assistants”) or Research Assistants receive tuition remission and a typical stipend of about $14,500 per academic year. Students are still required to pay fees of about $1,500 per academic year and optional health insurance of about $1,100 per academic year.
