TOEFL
The minimum acceptable scores on the TOEFL exam is 100 for the internet test [95 for the online Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) program]. Registration materials for the TOEFL exam can be obtained from U.S. consulates, embassies, binational centers, or the Educational Testing Service.
IELTS
The minimum acceptable IELTS score is 7.0. there is no department code or institutional code for IELTS. Please have scores sent directly to the College of Arts and Sciences. IELTS scores are valid for two years. Information about the IELTS exam can be found at the IELTS Web site.

A successful statement will illustrate a candidate's goals, highlight their research interests, and explain how their experience is relevant to the academic research conducted by faculty in their program of interest. Please try to limit your statement of purpose to 500-1,000 words (250-500 for certificate applications). Your Statement of Purpose can be uploaded on the Supplemental Items Listing page.
GPA
A 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better cumulative grade point average (GPA) calculated on the last 60 credit hours of course work completed in your undergraduate program and available at the time of application for admission.
A 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better GPA in all relevant graduate work for which a grade has been awarded.
CV
The résumé should list a candidate's relevant work experience, internships, research, awards, and/or publications, as well as educational history. A curriculum vitae (CV) is also accepted.

Fee
The application fee is $55, payable by credit or debit card. We accept Visa, Discover, and Mastercard.
RL
Master's programs require two letters of recommendation. Recommenders will evaluate a candidate based on academic performance, motivation for program of study, intellectual capacity and/or research and writing ability.
Recommendation letters can be uploaded only after the application has been submitted and the fee paid.
Transcript
Transcripts: Official Transcript Evaluation
All international applicants are required to complete an official transcript evaluation. The transcript evaluation is not required for international applicants who have completed a Bachelor's degree in the United States. Transcript evaluations must be submitted to American University in lieu of the original international transcript.
