TOEFL
All applicants whose primary language is not English (or for whom English is not one of their primary languages) is required to submit proof of English proficiency. At this time, the only acceptable forms of proof for English proficiency are the TOEFL and IELTS exams (certificates of completion from English-language schools are not accepted). Below are the minimum scores required by all graduate programs in The Lynch School:
TOEFL iBT = 100 minimum
IELTS – 7.0 minimum
An official score report must be sent directly from Educational Testing Services (TOEFL) or IELTS to the Office of Graduate Admission.

GRE
The GRE is required of all doctoral applicants (except for applicants to the PSAP program – see note below) and an official test score report must be sent directly from Educational Testing Services (ETS); copies or reports submitted by the applicant are not acceptable. Please note that GRE score reports must be received by the application deadline and that ETS will report scores to the Office of Graduate Admissions automatically within 10-16 days. Therefore, applicants should make arrangements to register for the GRE well in advance of application deadlines to ensure that score reports arrive in time.
The GRE requirement is waived for applicants to our Ed.D. in Educational Leadership (PSAP Program). This requirement is not waived for any other programs.

The personal statement is an essay – approximately 1,000-1,500 words in length – that describes your academic and professional goals and any experience relevant to the program to which you are applying. It is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your writing skills as you describe your future plans, expectations, and aspirations.

In addition to your academic history and relevant work experience, please include:
-Any teaching or counseling experience (including any licenses already held);
-Any social justice related experience;
-Any language skills other than English (especially Spanish language skills) and;
-Any research experience or publications
Fee
A non-refundable application fee of $65 is required. The fee can be paid online or by check or money order made payable to Boston College. The fee is waived for applicants to Boston College Fifth-Year/Early Admit Program, UCTC Program, Teach for America, The Jesuit Volunteer Corps, The McNair Scholars Program, and the Institute for the Recruitment of Teachers. To receive a waiver, a fee waiver form must be submitted.

Three letters of recommendation are required: at least two from academic sources (professors familiar with your academic work) and one or more from a practical or applied setting.
Transcript
Official transcripts, bearing the official seal of the institution and the signature of the registrar or relevant administrator, are required for all post-secondary education. Both undergraduate and graduate transcripts are required. Official transcripts are only required after acceptance and that unofficial copies are acceptable to be uploaded in the application.
