The M.S. in Engineering degree provides students with a rigorous, adaptive curriculum and research environment that prepares them to integrate discoveries from multiple fields and address multi-scale problems beyond the bounds of traditional engineering disciplines. It provides broad training in science and engineering oriented to solving complex problems that transcend specialized engineering disciplines or fields.Students with ABET accredited engineering degrees are invited to apply. Students not having an ABET accredited engineering degree but having degrees in math or physical/biological science or other degrees are also welcome, but may be asked to take additional selected course work to adequately prepare them for engineering studies.
The PhD in Engineering is oriented towards finding engineering solutions rooted in strong science foundations for engineering problems of the 21st century. The problems may have scopes ranging from classical to postmodern computer, electrical, mechanical, biochemical, civil engineering perspectives.Interdisciplinary research is strongly encouraged among engineering specialties and other UGA departments. The PhD in Engineering provides an opportunity for defining an original research problem, applying advanced data analyses skills and presenting original research at professional meetings. PhD students receive opportunities to teach. The PhD in Engineering provides maximum flexibility for students and faculty in addressing 21st century engineering problems.
